“Land of Dreams” comprised of a series of photographs and video installations, is a portrait of America from my perspective as an Iranian/American artist. Shot in 2019 across the state of New Mexico, one of the poorest and most racially diverse states in America, home to Native Americans, African Americans, Mexicans and other immigrant and marginalized communities.
These images are meant to evoke a shared humanity among those living under extreme social, political, economic, and racial injustice in a nation that was built by the blood and hard work of its natives, slaves and immigrants. The recent turmoil and protests are an obvious response by Americans who by fighting against perpetual history of racism help us resist this country’s rapid move toward totalitarianism that threatens its future and contradicts the very principal of democracy.
