Take One Action

TAKE ONE ACTION is a public initiative with artists creating iconography for the times we are living in. Just as the Statue of Liberty or the Flag are identified with democracy, new signs are needed to inspire civic engagement to save democracy. Through TAKE ONE ACTION, artists from across the United States are prompted to use their visual practice as a basis for presenting step-by-step actions that everyday people can take to defend the Constitution and their civil rights.

This initiative embodied ATLT’s mission to demonstrate that artists can create vital responses to today’s pressing issues and inspire others to have hope and to imagine alternative solutions for the future. In this way, art and action are the antidotes to fear and resignation.

‍ ‍ TAKE ONE ACTION took place over a series of activations:

  1. TAKE ONE ACTION panel discussion with artists Shaun Leonard, Marka27, Janet Biggs and Mary Lucier, moderated by Pablo Helguera at Crisitin Tierney Gallery in March 2026.

  2. TAKE ONE ACTION public art action with works and messages by Robert Longo and Sasha Stiles wheat-pasted on posters visible in 60 locations in Lower Manhattan in May 2026.

  3. TAKE ONE ACTION panel discussion at Laundromat Project with artists Shaun Leonardo and Sasha Stiles and activist Jahsiah Montrivel, moderated by cultural stratetgist Brian Tate in September 2026.

  4. TAKE ONE ACTION public art intervention with six LED mobile trucks displaying artists’s works and messages circulating through the Bronx, Brookyn, Queens and Manhattan in October 2026. Featured artists included Robert Longo, Marka27, Marilyn MInter, Shaun Leonardo, Sasha Stiles, Julian Alexander, Debra Pearlman, Janet Biggs & Terry Berkowitz, Jonathan Allen, August Savage, and Kiyo Guitierez.

  5. TAKE ONE ACTION online exhibition with all of the above artists and also Azita Moradkhani, Dareece Walker, Felix Morelo, Holly Ballard Martz, Cassandra Zampini, Elissa Levy, Grace Graupe-Pillard, Diana Shpungin, Jeremy Dennis, Alexander Burr Clark, Ariel Uzal, and Talya Whyte. This show (see below) is an everlasting repository of hope and an archive of iconography for future movements.
