Timothy Hunter

In my work, I think through repetition and re-arrangement, compositional methods like monophonics, polyphonics, and rhythm and how to employ these methods across video, sound, and image making. I use bricolage to explore reference and citation. My approach often makes use of archival material as a source for remixing. The work alternates between exploratory and didactic and considers the political, cultural and social richness of the Black diaspora. The use of found imagery is a contemplation on collective memory; it’s my method of thinking about diasporic fragmentation. The overall work is an attempt to capture this fragmentation. In a wider sense, my practice explores the tension between futurity, speculative narratives and history as well as the intersections of physical space, digital, and the intangible.

The audio work, Ludger Sylbaris (Ludger Sylbaris The Martinican Man Who Survived A Volcano, is how I interpreted the theme of rupture in relation to the works included in this project- Pelee's Tower specifically).
