In October 2019, the Madres Buscadoras de Sonora (Seeking Mothers of Sonora Collective) discovered 58 bodies in clandestine graves scattered in the desert outside Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. Each grave contained several bodies buried between 2011 and 2019. The oldest remains were 9 years old; the most recent 1 week. The difficulty of looking for bodies in the desert lies in the repetition of the referents in the landscape, hence the finding is a consequence of learning to differentiate what at first glance appears monotonous.
En octubre de 2019, el colectivo Madres Buscadoras de Sonora descubrió 58 cuerpos en fosas clandestinas dispersas en el desierto a las afueras de Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. Cada fosa contenía varios cuerpos enterrados entre 2011 y 2019. Los restos más antiguos tenían 9 años; los más recientes 1 semana. La dificultad de buscar cuerpos en el desierto radica en la repetición de los referentes en el paisaje, de ahí que el encontrar sea consecuencia de aprender a diferenciar lo que a primera vista se muestra monótono.
