Kyiv Series

I've been filming Kyiv for a long time: the structured chaos of the city's landscape, the urban slums, its people, their behavior, and social habits — visualizing who we are at a specific moment and where we are heading. Right now, everyone has so much pain. On Maidan, during the farewell ceremony, people pay tribute to a Hero who died defending the country, us, and their loved ones. The city 'freezes' when rockets and Shaheds hit its buildings and people. Everything around is a mix of fragility and resilience, and very ordinary everyday life. These photos are a kind of question: how collective memory is formed, how it becomes central to shaping our future, and how it can serve as a form of therapy and finding support for our values.

Ukraine’s state emergency services are working to extract trapped people from a nine-story building. This day, dozens of Russian missiles have struck targets across Ukraine, with the capital, Kyiv, enduring the heaviest barrage in months. A Kyiv apartment block was destroyed, killing at least one person and wounding six others, including a seven-year-old girl.

The girl left the damaged house with her belongings. This day, russian troops attacked Ukraine again with Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 drones. The enemy’s main target was Kyiv. Several city districts, including Darnytskyi, Pecherskyi, Holosiivskyi, Podilskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi, suffered from the night's attack. Debris from downed drones hit five residential buildings and several cars. In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out in a multi-story building, and two floors were destroyed. One person was killed, and seven others were injured.
